Scriptures About Health | The Jesus-Centered Approach to Wellness That Changes Everything

Hey friend! Let’s be real – pursuing health and taking care of yourself isn’t just good for you (though it absolutely is!).
But it’s also really important to God. Scriptures about health are all throughout the Bible.
When I started approaching health through a Jesus-centered lens, everything shifted. The pressure lifted. The overwhelm faded. And in its place? A deep sense of peace, purpose, and yes – even joy in the journey.
So if you’re looking for:
- Inspiration in your journey
- What God actually says about health (beyond the surface-level quotes)
- Motivation to pursue wellness as an act of love and worship to God
- A framework that brings freedom instead of rigid rules
- Peace and clarity as scripture replaces confusion with God’s wisdom
Then you’re in the right place!
These verses and principles are exactly what guide my pursuit of health as a follower of Jesus, and I’m thrilled to share them with you.
Let’s jump in. ♥️
First: Remember the Health of Your Heart
For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8

I need to start by getting real – and stick with me, because this is what brought the most joy and freedom to my life.
Taking care of your body has value – but some value. Not all. The most important thing in this life is our relationship with Jesus and following Him in all He told us to do. It’s the most fulfilling, life-altering, filled-with-love way to live. We are meant to put Him first in our hearts and lives.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
So what does this practically look like? Well, in health, it can feel tempting to get obsessed with finding answers and researching especially if you are struggling. I get it – I’ve been there. So I say this with the most compassion and love: Research isn’t bad, it’s good. But it needs balance.
Bring all those fears and cares to Jesus. Bring Him into the process. All your raw emotions. And know that He can help you, lead you to answers, and can use this for good. He is your healer and your rock.
Same with how much time and energy we put into our physical health. It’s a good, beautiful, God-honoring thing to eat well, move your body, and take care of it in other ways. But it shouldn’t be the #1 in your heart or your mind.
Surrendering my health to God was one of the most life-changing decisions. It really was what changed everything.
There was a season when I spent hours each day researching health solutions. Moving from that, to knowing that God was enough for me and His love was better than life – no matter what happened – transformed my heart (Psalm 63:3-4). Life became beautiful, joyful, and whole again.
Not because my health instantly changed, but because my perspective did.
practical tips:
- Key Journal Prompts:
- If you struggle with researching or obsessing with health, bring it to Him. Be totally honest about how you feel, ask Him to heal those areas of your heart, and see what He says.
- Journal any fears or anxieties about your health, then write a prayer surrendering them to God. Ask Him to lead you to answers and help you in the ways only He can.
- The best thing you can do is ask Jesus to show you how you can fully live for him as your #1, in your circumstances. There is always a way! He is the God of the impossible. He will always make a way, and He is your helper. It’s okay if it looks different in different seasons of life.
- Create healthy boundaries – set specific time limits for health research and social media so they don’t consume your thoughts or day
- Create a short list of Scriptures about God’s love and read them aloud each morning
- Focus on Him throughout your day. Infuse your day with things like instrumental worship music while you work, praying during a walk, listening to a sermon in the car, etc.
Let your health journey begin here: not with more research or regimens, but with a heart wholly surrendered to the God who loves you more than you can imagine.
You Are the Temple of the Holy Spirit
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

In the Old Testament, building the temple took years, the finest materials, and incredibly detailed craftsmanship. And now? Amazingly, that same God chooses to live in us.
Our bodies are a gift that houses the incredible spirit of God.
One of the best ways to look at our health is to honor our bodies as His temple. Taking care of yourself can be an act of worship and love.
Meditate on how He lives in you. Right here, right now. In your circumstances. It’s a reality that will never change. He is always with you and will never forsake you.
And let that love, that reality, lead you into caring for your physical health – the body that He lives in. ♥️
practical tips:
- Choose one area of physical self-care this week as an intentional act of worship (e.g., drink more water, stretch, rest)
- Write Scriptures about being God’s temple on sticky notes and place them where you’ll see them daily
- Pray before meals and workouts with genuine gratitude, thankng God for your body and asking Him to help you honor it
- Optional: Listen to worship music during your workout to transform it into a spiritual practice
